Patrick Mahomes' road to recovery is going according to plan. The 25-year-old Kansas City Chiefs quarterback underwent turf toe surgery shortly after the team finished as runners-up in Super Bowl LV versus the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last February.
Speaking to Adam Teicher of ESPN, Mahomes gave a positive update about his status, which should give Chiefs fans something to smile about.
“I think I'm progressing well. I think I'm ahead of schedule myself. Obviously, we're trying to be cautious. We're not pushing me out there too soon. But I'm doing what I can. I've gotten out of the boot finally. It took forever. Now I'm trying to get back on the field and get that stuff working. I'm sure they'll keep me on that same pathway and that hopefully, I can do some stuff by the end of the offseason,” Patrick Mahomes said.
Chiefs head coach Andy Reid has also seen where Mahomes is at right now and is proud of the hard work he put in his rehabilitation.
“He's got great flexibility in that toe,” Reid said. “He worked his tail off, not a real fun thing for him to do with that. It seems like a small thing, but that toe is rather large and stiff before the surgery and after the surgery, so he's really worked hard to get that right.”
Barring any setbacks (knock on wood), the Kansas City superstar will likely be available once the team begins training camp in July. The Chiefs will begins team practices in late May and it's still unclear if Mahomes will join them by then.
