Sunday's Super Bowl bout against the Kansas City Chiefs and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers presents itself as an opportunity for Patrick Mahomes to bag the second Vince Lombardi trophy in his career. As it turns out, however, Mahomes already has his sights set on more than just two Super Bowl wins.

According to Mahomes, he enters every single season with the hopes of lifting the trophy at the end of the campaign:

“The goal is to win as many Super Bowls as possible and to play in this game every single year,” Mahomes said Wednesday, via Charean Willaims of NBC Sports. “I’m going to have that mindset every single time I hit the field as I’m trying to get back in this game and I’m trying to win it.”

Nevertheless, Mahomes made it abundantly clear that he is still very much focused on the task at hand. He has a full appreciation of the challenge that lies ahead come Sunday, and Mahomes knows that he will need to be at his very best against the great Tom Brady and his Bucs:

“We don’t look that far ahead,” said Mahomes. “I’m focused on this game right now, trying to win this second Super Bowl and be able to hold that Lombardi Trophy and have that second ring. But if I’m at the end of my career and I have a lot of Super Bowl rings in my hand, I’ll be happy.”

Patrick Mahomes is undeniably on the path to greatness, with some saying that he actually has a shot at chasing Brady's unbridled legacy. Mahomes' quest will take a significant turn on Sunday should he manage to log a win against who many consider to be the GOAT.
