In 2018, the Kansas City Chiefs scored a lot, precisely 565 points. Their ability to score at will was a bit of a surprise; though Andy Reid is one of the NFL's premier offensive minds, his quarterback, Patrick Mahomes, was an unknown. But, entering 2019, nobody will be shocked to see Kansas City put up points in chunks considering their roster, coach, and quarterback.
Mahomes expects the Chiefs to score on every single offensive possession. Not just a whole bunch. Every. Single. Time.
“We expect to score every single time we're on the field,” said Mahomes, per ESPN's Adam Teicher. “We plan to go out there, have positive gains and get the ball in the end zone or let [kicker Harrison] Butker kick it in.”
Most quarterbacks can't say that with confidence, nor should they say it. But Mahomes and the Chiefs offense is a different breed. In just his second year in the NFL — his first as a starter –, Mahomes set the NFL landscape ablaze en route to 50 passing touchdowns and an MVP nod.
Mahomes' supporting cast in Kansas City is also amongst the best in the NFL. The quarterback gets to make others jealous by passing to perennial Pro Bowler tight end Travis Kelce. If that doesn't work, he has an abundance of speed and skill at receiver in Tyreek Hill, Sammy Watkins, and rookie Mecole Hardmon. If for some reason he can't pass the ball, a running back by a committee led by Damien Williams and LeSean McCoy isn't too bad.
And then there is the madman running the show; Reid, the head coach. Though never a Super Bowl-winning head coach, Reid may have his most explosive offense ever in Kansas City; that's saying a lot.
