Oakland Raiders wide receiver Antonio Brown has had a tumultuous offseason, and he was most recently in the news for his battle with the NFL over the usage of his helmet.

Because the helmet that Brown had been wearing for the first nine years of his career was no longer certified by the NOCSAE, the model was banned by the NFL, meaning Brown had to change headgear.

The 31-year-old then apparently threatened to step away from the game (and hinted at doing so on Instagram) and filed a grievance against the league, which he lost.

After losing the grievance, Brown took to Twitter to say that he would soon be rejoining his teammates, and he ultimately arrived back at Raiders camp this past Tuesday.

But now that the dust has settled, Brown denies ever considering retiring over his helmet.

“I don’t know where they got that, who made that up, either,” Brown told reporters, according to Michael Gehlken of The Las Vegas Review-Journal. “Why would I retire, man? I’ve got a beautiful career. I’m healthy. I love to play the game. … I’m grateful to play the game.”

Of course, whether or not Brown is being honest is anyone's guess.

The seven-time Pro Bowler began his offseason by demanding a trade from the Pittsburgh Steelers, and the Steelers granted his request, sending him to Oakland for a third-round draft pick and a fifth-rounder.

Brown is coming off of a 2018 campaign in which he hauled in 104 receptions for 1,297 yards and a league-leading 15 touchdowns.
