The Oakland Raiders have a date with the Seattle Seahawks in London, England, and Jon Gruden isn't thrilled. The Raiders will have a long trip ahead of them. After losing to the Los Angeles Chargers 26-10, morale is probably low for the team. Now they'll have to travel overseas and play with a neutral crowd watching, rather then a home game. Gruden isn't the best when it comes to long flights, so he's been vocal about his concerns.
“I hope I can make it, honestly. I’m not great (traveling),” Gruden told NBC Sports. “I get claustrophobic. My son was a weightlifter and he won a powerlifting competition in Belarus. I had to fly 14 hours. I had to fly home 14 hours. I had vertigo for a month. I couldn’t even lay down, the house was spinning. I am hoping I don’t get vertigo. I’m not a great traveler.”
Jon Gruden's Raiders will get a bye in Week 7, so they'll get ample recovery time. In Week 8, they'll get a home game against the Indianapolis Colts. They'll get to stay in California in the two weeks following that, as they take on the San Francisco 49ers and the Chargers for the second time. Nevertheless, Gruden is ready to tackle this new experience.
“Did a lot of research on it, obviously — people that have done it, people that have made that cross-country trip from California,” Gruden said Monday. “I don’t know much about it. We’re just doing the best thing we think for our players. Get the proper preparation here. Then go to London, get them the proper rest, time acclimation. Then get ready to play on Sunday.”
We'll have to wait and see how well this preparation pans out on Sunday, as the Raiders look to get win number two.
