Los Angeles Rams quarterback Jared Goff had a rough rookie season, to say the least. The No. 1 pick in the 2016 draft lost all seven games he started, completed just over 50 percent of his passes and had a 5-to-7 TD-to-INT ratio.

Per Alden Gonzalez of ESPN, Goff admits that he struggled to find an “edge” during his first year in the NFL after coming in as the No. 1 pick. He had had one before in college after he was not heavily recruited coming out of high school.

But after his rookie-year struggles, Goff says he found his edge in Year 2, which was to prove that he was worthy of being that top pick.

Goff sure succeeded in doing just that. Under the guidance of head coach Sean McVay, Goff looked like a completely different player. He completed 62 percent of his passes, throwing for 3,804 yards, 28 touchdowns, and just seven interceptions as he helped lead the Rams back into the playoffs for the first time in 13 years.

It will be interesting to see whether Goff will be able to successfully maintain that edge this season. After their remarkable one-season turnaround last year, the Rams now have some serious expectations to live up to after their busy offseason. With the additions of such stars as Ndamukong Suh, Marcus Peters, Aqib Talib, and Brandin Cooks, some have them as Super Bowl contenders.

Goff will have a huge say as to whether they actually do live up to the hype. As well as he played as a sophomore, he should still have a lot more room to grow. If he does develop into one of the elite quarterbacks in the league, the already formidable Rams will have even more of an edge over their competition.
