The Los Angeles Rams have been one of the busier teams this offseason, putting together a promising roster on both sides of the ball. The team has brought in a plethora of proven talent to help build off their success from last year that saw them earn their first playoff berth in well over a decade.

However, this has also shifted questions toward the long-term future for some of their core pieces to the puzzle. According to Ian Rapoport of The NFL Network, the Rams have taken a couple of expected contract decisions with two of their key player in star running back Todd Gurley and cornerback Marcus Peters by picking up their respective fifth-year options for the 2019 season.

These two are anticipated to be key pieces of the team's future given their talent and youth. Gurley is coming off his most productive campaign in his third year in the league that saw him earn the NFL Offensive Player of the Year award. He even garnered some consideration for the MVP award after he led the NFL with 2,093 scrimmage yards and 19 total touchdowns.

He became just the third player in league history to have at least 2,000 scrimmage yards, 10 rushing touchdowns, and more than five touchdowns receptions in a single season joining Hall of Famers Marshall Faulk and O.J. Simpson. Gurley has established himself as one of the top all-around running backs in the game that has an extremely bright future ahead of him.

Meanwhile, Peters is expected to step into a prominent role in the secondary after being acquired earlier this offseason for a slew of draft picks. In his first two seasons in the league with the Kansas City Chiefs, he has established himself as one of the premier cornerbacks en route to earning a pair of Pro Bowl selections and a First-Team All-Pro nod. Peters will have a chance to solidify himself as a cornerstone in the promising Rams' secondary over next couple of seasons.

The Rams may have in order new lucrative long-term extension for both Gurley and Peters in the near future but first wanted to take care of business by securing them each through the 2019 season well ahead of the May 3 deadline.
