The Los Angeles Rams were one of the biggest surprise stories in the 2018 season led by their resurgent star running back Todd Gurley.

The 23-year-old's huge bounce-back 2017 campaign has helped him capture the Offensive Player of the Year on Saturday night.

Gurley received 37 of the possible 50 votes for the award topping Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown (eight), New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady (four) and Houston Texans wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins (one). It is the first Offensive Player of the Year award of his career that he adds to his resume that already includes a pair of Pro Bowl nods, a First-Team All-Pro selection, and a Second-Team All-Pro nod.

He is coming off a career-best campaign where he finished second in the league with 1,305 rushing yards, an NFL-high 13 rushing touchdowns, 64 catches, 788 receiving yards, and six more touchdowns through the air. Todd Gurley led the league with 2,093 scrimmage yards, which put him alongside Hall of Famers Eric Dickerson and Marshall Faulk, as well as Steven Jackson, as the only players in team history with more than 2,000 scrimmage yards in a single season.

Gurley also rushed for 100 or more yards six times, highlighted by a season-high 152 rushing yards and four total touchdowns in a blowout 42-7 win over the Seattle Seahawks helped the team earn the NFC West division title. This performance put him alongside Faulk as the only players in franchise history to have at least 150 rushing yards, three rushing touchdowns, and a receiving touchdown in a single game.

He was the driving force of their much-improved offense that led the league with 29.9 points per game. It comes a year after the Rams were the lowest scoring team that averaged 14.0 per game, and became the just the second team in NFL history alongside the San Francisco 49ers in 1964-65 to lead the league in scoring after notching the fewest points in the previous campaign.
