Sean McVay just led the Los Angeles Rams to a Super Bowl victory. There are rumors that he may walk away from coaching the Rams after winning a ring, but this is not the best career option for McVay. he is set up in the ideal coaching situation right now, and if he walks away there is no guarantee that he would find himself in anywhere near as good an opportunity if he chose to return. In fact, it is almost certain that he would end up in a worse situation.  Continue reading for several points McVay should consider when making his next career decision.

Sean McVay must return to Rams

1. Job Security

One underrated aspect of McVay’s decision-making has to be the new-found job security that he has. McVay is a very innovative and creative head coach, particularly on the offensive side of the ball. However, innovation can sometimes lead to doubters. This is particularly true when that innovation doesn't lead to immediate success. There is no doubt that McVay has the capabilities to adjust his offensive approach and throw off defensive coordinators who will no doubt be studying tape and trying to counter his most effective plays on the offensive side of the ball. It is going to be up to McVay to counter back and stay one step ahead of the defensive coordinators who will be trying to slow down the Rams offense next season.

The job security that Sean McVay now has will allow him to be as innovative as possible, which will keep the Rams offense fresh and frustrating for opponents. McVay will not have quite the same job security in any other organization, whether that be on the sideline or in the booth. On the sideline, he may be viewed as a one-trick pony who got lucky with Los Angeles and didn't work out in his new city.

This will make him an easy scapegoat for a team that might have many other issues. Meanwhile, having brought a championship to the city of Los Angeles, McVay has proven himself and he will have full creative freedom to make adjustments on offense that will keep the Rams ahead of their opponents. McVay would have more job security in the booth as an analyst than with another team, but the broadcasting booth will likely always be there for him. The opportunity to win more Super Bowls with a near-Pro Bowl roster will certainly not always be there.

2. Offensive (and Defensive) Stars

Sean McVay leads a potent offensive attack in Los Angeles right now. Led by quarterback Matthew Stafford and wide receiver Cooper Kupp, the Rams have elite top-end talent. They have an explosive talent at the running back position in Cam Akers, along with a top-end secondary receiving talent in former New York Giants star Odell Beckham Jr.

McVay would be hard-pressed to find a head coaching vacancy with another team that has anywhere near this level of elite playmakers on the offensive side of the ball. Most teams with this level of talent are successful and fairly stable organizations that are not always looking for a new coach.

Sean McVay will likely focus more of his attention towards the offensive side of the roster because that is his area of expertise and where he has built most of his reputation. That being said, the Rams also have elite playmakers on their defense. The Rams defense is led by perennial Defensive Player of the Year and MVP candidate Aaron Donald.

Although there is a chance he may retire now or in the near future, the team also has standout cornerback Jalen Ramsey anchoring their secondary along with Von Miller, who is still turning in productive seasons rushing the quarterback. If Donald chooses to return, he is a game wrecking superstar like no one else. Consistently demanding double or even triple-teams, Donald still finds ways to get into the opposing teams’ backfield and wreak havoc.

3. Legacy

Sean McVay has the opportunity to do something that not many coaches in the NFL are ever able to do: build a legacy. Even some Super Bowl-winning coaches do not have the roster nor the longevity to sustain a winning performance and build their legacy. McVay’s still in his mid-30s, he has an innovative mind, job security and elite talent on both sides of the ball.

All of the pieces are in place for the Rams to be a serious Super Bowl contender at least for the next three to five years with McVay at the helm.

If his team is able to string together at least three Seasons of 12 or more wins with at least two deep playoff runs, and hopefully at least one more the Super Bowl ring, or another appearance (or two) in the Super Bowl, McVay will be well on his way to establishing a career-defining legacy.

All of these reasons together show that Los Angeles is the best place for Sean McVay to continue his career. His job security is unparalleled, he has playmakers at key positions on both sides of the football, and he has the opportunity to continue building a legacy that will define his career for decades to come.
