Brian Flores' lawsuit against the NFL, Miami Dolphins, New York Giants and Denver Broncos may not have happened if not for a mistake from Bill Belichick.
Belichick mistakenly texting Flores when he thought he was texting Brian Daboll kickstarted the lawsuit. As Daboll secured the job as the Giants head coach before Flores was interviewed, the former Dolphins coach used their text exchange in his lawsuit.
In an appearance on CNN, Flores said that Belichick was unaware that his texts were used in the lawsuit and that the two haven't spoken since that exchange. Flores spent 15 years with the New England Patriots, including an 11-year stint as one of Belichick's assistant coaches, before becoming the Dolphins head coach.

Flores also included details about the Dolphins' owner offering him $100,000 to lose games and the Broncos brass showing up late and looking disinterested in their 2019 interview with him.
The terrible experiences Flores has had shows that the NFL needs change in its hiring practices and that the measure implemented to solve it has not worked. The lawsuit shows that teams have used the Dolphins' former coach as a way to satisfy the NFL's rules on diversity in head coach hiring cycles. With no real intent to hire him being put in place, the league's rules are being exploited and could be changed based on the outcome of Flores' case.
Flores remains determined to bring positive change to the NFL's hiring practices. He has even said that he is willing to go through with it even if it means he'll never coach again.
