Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel officially finalized his coaching staff last week, which includes longtime wideout Wes Welker as the team’s new wide receivers coach.

Among Welker’s first orders of business will be to work with first-year wide receiver Jaylen Waddle. The former Alabama Crimson Tide star is coming off of quite a prolific debut campaign with the Dolphins, as he set the record for the most receptions in a season by a rookie with 104.

Overall, Welker sees plenty of potential in Waddle, including with his sheer speed as a wideout.

“That kid is top notch,” Welker said on Wednesday. “Ton of talent. Speed. Passion for the game.

“That’s what you want to work with. I’m excited to work with him and hopefully take him to the next level.”

Welker joins the Dolphins following a three-season run with the San Francisco 49ers as their wide receivers coach. He worked alongside a multitude of unique wideouts, including the do-it-all talent in Deebo Samuel. McDaniel and Welker both helped to exploit Samuel’s versatility this past season, as the wideout was not only a threat on the field as a pass-catcher, but he was also provided with snaps in the backfield as well.

There sure is much anticipation that, as with Samuel, both McDaniel and Welker will be innovative in how they will utilize Waddle in the 2022 season. Waddle showcased last season that he can be an all-around talent on offense for the Dolphins.
