The New York Jets and Miami Dolphins became part of history on Thursday night following the schedule release for the 2020 NFL season. Among the more odd matchups, the Jets and Dolphins are set to face each other in back-to-back games in 2020.

Of course, due to being in the AFC East, the Jets and Dolphins are required to face each other twice every season. However, next season, New York and Miami are going to face each other twice in three weeks.

In Week 10 of the 2020 NFL season, the Jets will make the trip to Miami to square off against the Dolphins. Then, both teams will proceed to have a bye week in Week 11. After the bye, they'll play each other again in Week 12 in New York.

Typically, the NFL usually doesn't have instances like the one that will take place between the Jets and Dolphins in 2020. As a matter of fact, something like this hasn't happened since 1991.

Back in 1991, the Seattle Seahawks and Los Angeles Chargers faced each other twice in consecutive weeks when both of them were in the old configuration of the AFC West. The Seahawks took the first meeting while the Chargers were able to prevail in the rematch.

Even though the Jets and Dolphins aren't expected to be contenders next season, it'll be interesting to see how playing each other in three weeks could affect their seasons. Nevertheless, we'll be witnessing history between both teams when they take the field against one another late into 2020 season.
