Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins finally did it. The veteran signal-caller led his team into emery territory in the bayou and managed to defeat the third-seeded New Orleans Saints in the Wild Card round of the playoffs on Sunday afternoon.

As a result, Cousins has finally put to rest the notion that he can't win big games against big-time opponents — something that has followed him to Minnesota from his time spent in our nation's capital as a member of the Washington Redskins. Even so, Cousins still took some time to credit his teammates for the Vikings' upset victory over future Hall of Fame quarterback Drew Brees and the surging New Orleans Saints.

“I appreciate the question, but I’m just glad we won a playoff game,” Cousins recently said, via Jim Souhan of the Minneapolis Star Tribune. “I just do my part. We won the game today because we played great defense, we got a turnover, we had great special teams, we had great play-calling, we had a great plan. We protected, we ran the football, we probably had 35-40 rushing attempts. There were a whole lot of reasons we won the game. Does the quarterback play a role in that? Yes, but it was a team win.”

Now that the Vikings have officially defeated the Saints, which came by way of a thrilling overtime victory on the road in New Orleans, Minnesota will begin gearing up to take on another formidable opponent in the top seeded San Francisco 49ers.
