Mike Zimmer is in his sixth season as the Minnesota Vikings head coach, and he intends on coaching even longer in the NFL. Zimmer shared his plans to coach until he's at least 70-years-old.
The Vikings head coach just turned 63-years-old in June and has had a bevy of eye surgeries during his coaching career. Zimmer has undergone eight surgeries to his right eye and two surgeries on his left eye.
Despite the issues he's had with his sight, Zimmer is focused on helping Minnesota get back into the playoffs. After missing the playoffs in 2018, the veteran head coach realizes that people may be writing them off.
“Put it on our shoulders,” Zimmer said of the outside expectations. “It doesn’t bother me. Does not bother me. My whole life, I’ve been the underdog. . . . I love being doubted. . . . I love to prove people wrong.”
Just two years ago, the Vikings were able to finish with a 13-3 record to win the NFC North. Along with their divisional title, they proceeded to push their way to the NFC Championship Game.
Unfortunately, Minnesota became victims to the Philadelphia Eagles as the Nick Foles-led Eagles ended up advancing to the Super Bowl. Of course, Foles worked his magic as the Eagles took down the New England Patriots.
Now, with Kirk Cousins as their quarterback, the Vikings are hoping to improve upon their 8-7-1 season in 2018. Nevertheless, Zimmer would like to return to the playoffs this year to help extend his coaching career in Minnesota.
