Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Adam Thielen made headlines after essentially calling out the shortcomings of quarterback Kirk Cousins. Head coach Mike Zimmer has now given his thoughts on the matter.

Cousins responded to the criticisms by apologizing to Thielen for not doing his part in the 16-6 loss to the Chicago Bears. According to Chris Tomasson of the St. Paul Pioneer Press, Zimmer is not concerned about any lingering hard feelings between the two.

“He was probably just being nice,” Zimmer said regarding the apology. “Seriously, I’m not worried about it. Maybe he should get off the podcast.”

Having one star player call out a teammate is hardly ideal for the locker room culture at this point in the 2019 NFL season. It is no secret that Cousins has endured his fair share of struggles during his tenure in Minnesota. Thielen's comments only serve to add fuel to the fire in this situation.

Regardless, it is clear that the frustration has started to boil over within the Vikings. Although running back Dalvin Cook has proven more than capable of serving as the focal point of the offense, their inability to expose Chicago through the air led to a disastrous outing in a crucial NFC North matchup against Chicago.

While Thielen should have likely taken a different approach with his criticisms, they are still certainly understandable. At some point, Cousins will need to show he is able to come through for the team when it matters most otherwise his apologies will continue to fall on deaf ears.
