Heading into the upcoming season, New England Patriots quarterback Cam Newton was motivated to prove a point to the naysayers. He took it to heart as he finally made his way back to an NFL stadium yesterday after a year's absence. Newton used the limelight to send a message to his opponents even before the whistle sounded on their game against the Miami Dolphins.

ESPN NFL Nation reporter Mike Reiss quoted Newton's statement made on The Greg Hill Show via Twitter:

On the field, Cam Newton also announced his return by tallying a total of 155 passing yards on an efficient 15 out of 19 total passes attempted in the Patriots' win. He took the ball to the house a couple of times yesterday and scored two rushing touchdowns of his own.

Another returnee on the field was running back Sony Michel who recently had foot surgery and missed the majority of the team's training camp during the offseason. The third-year player looked good in his first game back as he rushed 37 yards on 10 carries along with a scored touchdown for the Patriots.

Veteran running back Rex Burkhead, undrafted rookie J.J. Taylor, long-time wide receiver Julian Edelman, sophomore wideout N'Keal Harry, and ball-carrier James White all made their presence felt in the team's 21-11 win.

Newton aims to exceed his applaudable performance and score another win against a tougher opponent in the Seattle Seahawks on September 20. At the end of the day, football fans are just glad to see the 2015 NFL MVP get back on the gridiron.
