The New England Patriots have a pivotal matchup with the Buffalo Bills in Week 16. Unfortunately, it remains to be seen whether or not wide receiver Julian Edelman will be good to go.
Edelman is currently listed as questionable with a knee injury for the homestand versus the Bills. According to NFL Network’s Mike Giardi, the injury is much worse than the Patriots are letting on:
“He was in some serious difficulty all week long. He did some damage to that tendon in his left knee and he was getting treatment three times a day to try to be on the field and he managed to get on the field, but he clearly wasn't himself”
It is no secret that Edelman has been playing at less than 100 percent. However, the prospect of his knee injury taking a turn for the worst is hardly an encouraging sign at this point in the 2019 NFL season.
Any time there is a knee issue involved, teams have good reason to hold their breath. There is no question that the lingering injury has seemingly started to take its toll on Edelman's performance. That was certainly the case in Week 15 after he hauled in just two catches on five targets for nine yards during the win over the Cincinnati Bengals.
Although the Patriots would like to gain favorable seeding, they may have to take a cautious approach with Edelman if they hope to have him available for the playoffs. Even then, he may still be at risk for further aggravating his injury going into the offseason.
