After winning Super Bowl 53, the New England Patriots will need to make a few decisions this offseason. Among those decisions is whether or not the Patriots want to retain Chris Hogan.
The Patriots and Hogan are reportedly working on a new contract ahead of free agency, according to Henry McKenna of USA Today.
With the team's wide receiving core possibly taking a hit this offseason, this news comes at a good time. Phillip Dorsett and Cordarelle Patterson are set to hit free agency as well.
In 2018, Hogan had a down year where he saw just 35 receptions, 532 yards, and three touchdowns. He also wasn't much of a factor in the playoffs, catching just eight passes for 58 yards.
The Patriots are likely open to bringing Hogan back because he provides stability at the position. He knows the offense and he was the only Patriots wide receiver to suit up in all 16 games of the regular season.

The Patriots have constantly had a different group of wide receivers in the Tom Brady/Bill Belichick era but it hasn't slowed them down. It is telling though that they see Hogan as someone who they want to keep for the future.
The Patriots could also look to the NFL Draft to add talent at the wide receiver position.
But for now, the Patriots will seemingly lock up Hogan to strengthen their wide receiving core.
