Despite having no new positive COVID-19 tests, the New England Patriots are still playing it safe.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Patriots are taking additional precautions and will continue to prepare for their Week 5 matchup against the Denver Broncos with virtual meetings and no practice again on Friday.

Patriots star and reigning Defensive Player of the Year Stephen Gilmore tested positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday, just five days after quarterback Cam Newton tested positive. Newton didn't play against the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday Night Football, a contest New England lost to drop to 2-2 on the season.

It's unknown at this point if Newton is going to play against the Broncos. The Patriots are certainly hoping the former MVP is back in action, as both Brian Hoyer and Jarrett Stidham struggled against the Chiefs, with the former getting benched for the latter.

In his first season with the Patriots after a decorated career with the Carolina Panthers, Newton has thrown for 714 yards and two touchdowns. He's also rushed for four touchdowns and is 2-1 as a starter, though he does have the same amount of interceptions (2) as touchdown passes.

The Patriots – Broncos game will be played on Monday, Oct. 12. It was supposed to be on Oct. 11.
