After it was revealed that he had tested positive for COVID-19, New England Patriots cornerback Stephon Gilmore revealed in a tweet that he is asymptomatic.

In his post, the NFL’s reigning Defensive Player of the Year thanked fans for their messages of well wishes and prayers and revealed that he is taking his situation as it comes. He added that while he is unsure of what to expect next, he remains in high spirits. He then advised other people to take the threat of the virus seriously, and that he will follow protocols and will not return to action until cleared by medical professionals.

Gilmore is the latest Patriots to test positive for COVID-19 after quarterback Cam Newton and practice squad defensive tackle Bill Murray tested positive last week. The 30-year old played in New England’s 26-10 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday, tallying three tackles in the Patriots’ second loss of the season. As a result, the Patriots have placed the three-time Pro Bowler on the team’s reserve/COVID-19 list and cancelled Wednesday’s practice.

Newton, who did not play in the game against the Chiefs, is asymptomatic like Gilmore, and is likely to return to the Patriots ahead of their game against the Denver Broncos on Sunday. But before Newton and Gilmore can return to the team’s facilities, they will need to test negative  for COVID-19 twice in succession. Gilmore’s positive test will also risk the postponement of New England’s game against Denver like that happened in their game against Kansas City.
