Tom Brady received new performance-based incentives added onto his contract from the Patriots last week, which will see him earn up to $5 million this season. But in typical Patriots fashion, Brady was pretty tight-lipped about his contract situation when asked about it on WEEI.
Instead, Brady declared his love for the Patriots organization and his desire to remain a part of it for a while longer.
Article Continues Below“I’ve never talked about my contract and that’s never been the top priority for me, as you guys know. I love being here, this community, this organization. I love winning and I love that my family has had a home for a long time,” Brady said per Mike Reiss of ESPN.
Brady added that expects to “be here next year and hopefully beyond.”
For the past couple of seasons, Brady has been vocal about his desire to play into his mid-40s. But with his contract set to expire next season coupled with continued reports of friction in his relationship with head coach Bill Belichick, there has been at least some seed of doubt about his future with the Patriots.
But based on these comments, it seems as if Brady fully intends to remain with the only franchise he’s ever been with over the course of his remarkable career. Of course, the Patriots will likely have to compensate Brady a little better as they did with the recent reworking of his deal, but you’d think that with Brady’s standing within the franchise, that shouldn’t be too much of an issue.
