In each of the New England Patriots' first seven Super Bowl appearances with quarterback Tom Brady under center, there has been a frequent trend of failing to get on the scoreboard in each contest.
However, Brady led the Patriots on a scoring drive with a 26-yard field goal by Stephen Gostkowski late in the first quarter. This marked the team's first points in the opening quarter for the first time in eight games in the Super Bowl with Brady and head coach Bill Belichick, according to Mike Reiss of ESPN.

The Patriots could have had a pair of scoring drives in the first quarter as he Gostkowski missed a 26-yard field goal after a bobbled snap that saw the kick hit the left upright. They were able to get on the scoreboard twice in the second quarter with a 45-yard field goal and a 26-yard touchdown run by running back James White.

This was done largely with All-Pro tight end Rob Gronkowski making just one catch for nine yards, and wideout Brandin Cooks being lost for the game due to a head injury. Although the Patriots trailed 22-12 at the half, the Patriots have held their own posting more than 300 total offensive yards but just hadn't moved the ball enough down the field to get into field goal range or better.
The Eagles have just combatted with a strong first half led by Nick Foles leading the charge completing 13-of-22 for 215 yards with a touchdown and an interception. His only mistake came on a deep throw that was bobbled by wide receiver Alshon Jeffery, who was the recipient of his only touchdown pass in the first half.
This played a significant part in helping Philadelphia also surpassing 300 total offensive yards in the first two quarters that saw them receive 107 rushing yards from their running backs.
