New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady is in the midst of his 19th training camp and just days away from his 41st birthday. At this point, everyone is well aware of his methodical physical preparation with the TB12 Method, which he uses to still perform at a high level even at his advanced age.

But in a Q&A with Religion of Sports, Brady also discussed the mental side of his preparation as camp begins and the new season creeps ever closer.

Over the last few seasons I’ve become a lot more aware of time, in general. It’s not just training camp or football — it’s everything. There’s a lot of sacrifice that goes into this not just from me, but from my family, too. My wife, my kids — I’m not as available during the football season.

For that reason alone, I’m conscious of a certain mental transition that begins to occur as camp gets started; an awareness of what it’s going to take for our team to succeed at the highest level. With that being said, I’m as excited as ever to try to achieve our team goals!

It’s nothing short of amazing what Brady has been able to achieve in terms of the mental side of the game. It’s one thing that he is still able to get himself up for another season as he closes in on two decades in the league. But despite all the achievements he's already compiled in his incredible career, he’s still gunning for more.

While there was some concern that Brady not reporting for OTAs this offseason, perhaps that added time with his family was just what he needed to endure another mentally taxing season. As Brady himself said, he’s as excited as ever to do more great things this season, which is great news for the Patriots.
