The New Orleans Saints have added wide receiver Ted Ginn to their active roster, according to Nick Underhill of The New Orleans Advocate.

Ginn has been sidelined since October with a knee issue that landed him on the injured reserve list. Prior to going down, Ginn had caught 12 passes for 135 yards and two touchdowns.

The 33-year-old returned to practice this week, and Saints head coach Sean Payton is liking what he is seeing:

“We’ll see, he’s moving pretty well,” said Payton on Thursday. “He’s a guy that runs, and I know he’s been working hard with the trainers and doing everything that he can to get prepared for this opportunity to come back.”

As explosive as New Orleans' offense has been this season, the Saints do lack receiver depth, but quarterback Drew Brees thinks the receiving corps are improving:

“It takes time, and there’s so many nuances to this offense too, and such a trust factor, and the chemistry that goes into the passing game that it just takes time,” Brees said. “I think we’ve gone through some growing pains at times, but you know we’re progressing.”

The return of Ginn should definitely be a shot in the arm.

Ginn was a significant part of New Orleans' offense last season, hauling in 53 receptions for 787 yards and four scores.

The Cleveland native, who played his collegiate football at Ohio State University, was originally selected by the Miami Dolphins with the ninth overall pick of the 2007 NFL Draft.

While he has never made a Pro Bowl in his career, Ginn has been a consistent presence in both the aerial attack and the kick return game for every team he has played for.

Other than the Dolphins and the Saints, Ginn has also spent time with the San Francisco 49ers, Arizona Cardinals and the Carolina Panthers.
