The New Orleans Saints are set to be without the services of Pro Bowl running back Mark Ingram for the first four games of the season due to a suspension for violating the performance-enhancing drug policy.

It has put second-year running back Alvin Kamara to receive an increased workload through the early goings of the 2018 season. According to Herbie Teope of NFL.com, Kamara voiced that he has much faith in whatever offensive game plan that head coach Sean Payton has for the running game in Ingram's absence.

The 22-year-old will likely receive the brunt of the workload in the backfield over that first month of the season, which is something that he didn't receive at any point of his first year. In the 2017 season, he had received double-digit carries five times while topping 100 rushing yards once in such games.

However, he did prove to be a versatile offensive asset with his ability to make a huge impact in the passing game making 81 catches for 826 receiving yards that ranked him second at his position in receptions behind Le'Veon Bell and first in receiving yards. This could lead to a relatively quick start out of the gate for the season in terms of production for Kamara with the responsibility of a primary running back.

The loss of Ingram is a significant blow to the offense, but the presence of the Tennessee product could soften that loss until he returns to the fold for the Week 5 Monday night game against the Washington Redskins.
