Saints superstar running back and fantasy football stalwart, Alvin Kamara has taken perhaps the biggest step a player can take in their return to the field from injury–he has gotten back on the practice field. Players usually need at least one practice, most of the time being Friday if they are going to play in the game that week. Kamara, according to Nick Underhill on Twitter, not only already got in that mandatory practice, but he is looking as close as ever to returning to the field as well.

Whether that return comes this Sunday or not still remains to be seen, as Kamara will need to see how his body responds to its first live football workout since the injury. Kamara is trying to return to a Saints team that is losing ground in the NFC wild-card race after two straight losses. Alvin is also trying to get back to help his fantasy managers, who drafted him as a first-round pick in 2021 and have been disappointed. Kamara is averaging a career-worst 3.7 yards per rush this season, down a full yard from his career average of 4.7 coming into the year.
Kamara has also had a bad year so far in the rushing touchdown department. After 16 rushing touchdowns in 2020, he is down to just three so far in the 2021 campaign. That is all despite averaging a career-high in rushes per game. Perhaps the time off will do wonders for the body and mind of Kamara and rejuvenate the star into the running back of old. If it does, he will lead his fantasy managers–and the Saints–into the playoffs.
