Free-agent running back DeMarco Murray’s name was strongly linked with the New Orleans Saints after Mark Ingram was suspended for the first four games of the season for PEDs. And as it turns out, the Saints actually have reached out to the former All-Pro back.
But as Adam Schefter of ESPN reports, Murray turned down the opportunity to work out for the Saints as he waits for a better opportunity.
Article Continues BelowSaints reached out to RB DeMarco Murray to bring him to New Orleans for a workout today, but he preferred not to work out with a large group of RBs, per source. Murray still waiting for right opportunity and believes he is ready to make a significant contribution in 2018.
After saying they wouldn’t bring in a veteran running back to replace the suspended Ingram, the Saints have brought in the likes of Jamaal Charles, Tim Hightower, and Terrance West for workouts as they look for more depth behind Alvin Kamara.
Murray, 30, played for the Tennessee Titans last season. He rushed for 659 yards and six touchdowns as he split carries with Derrick Henry. That was after going for 1,287 yards and nine touchdowns in his first season with the Titans as he made the Pro Bowl.
By turning down the Saints, Murray seems to believe he can find a situation where he can play a bigger role in the offense. Hopefully for him, he ends up finding such a situation even with the relatively little interest he's received on the open market thus far.
