The New Orleans Saints traded for Teddy Bridgewater to give Drew Brees a solid backup quarterback, but if one ESPN writers prediction comes true, it will only be one year spent in the big easy. When the Saints traded for Bridgewater, there were questions if he would take over at some point for Brees in the future. But with Bridgewater being a free agent, there seem to be some serious doubts.

Bridgewater has made it clear before that he wants to be a starter, so it would make sense that he wouldn't want to wait a few more years behind Brees. Seifert thinks that Bridgewater is going to try and get a starting role somewhere else, which means he will test the free agent market.

“Bridgewater won’t find a better chance to play regularly in 2019, assuming the Jaguars land Nick Foles, and the Redskins won’t find many better options to replace Smith,” ESPN’s Kevin Seifert said.

“Although he hasn’t started a regular season game since 2015, Bridgewater showed during the 2018 preseason that his right knee is healthy enough to support a return to the field.”

The Redskins did trade for Case Keenum so that is off the table, but there are still options where Bridgewater could compete for the starting job.

Bridgewater is a former first-round pick of the Minnesota Vikings out of Louisville, but his time there was cut short after he suffered a devastating leg injury in 2016. He has proven he is healthy enough now to lead a team.
