The New Orleans Saints are doing their due diligence ahead of Tuesday's start to training camp and are bringing in former Pro Bowl guard Trai Turner for a visit on Monday, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

The Saints begin their road to the 2023-24 NFL season with added excitement and expectations after signing quarterback Derek Carr to a four-year, $150 million contract in March. Though, they also come in with plenty of questions surrounding their offensive line.

The unit did not grade favorably in Pro Football Focus' recent rankings and is currently undergoing a significant transition phase. Trevor Penning, the No. 19 overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, will be carrying a big burden in his second year as the team's new starting left tackle. Although New Orleans cannot really afford a long adjustment period, there is reason to believe he is up to task. Still, there are other areas in the trenches that could use some fine-tuning.

Turner is a few years removed from his Carolina Panthers heyday, which included five-straight Pro Bowl selections from 2015-19, but he can still provide some crucial depth and experience. The 30-year-old started 12 games last season for the Washington Commanders and surrendered two sacks and 22 total pressures.

Giving Trai Turner a look ahead of training camp suggests the Saints could be searching for O-Line reinforcements throughout the lead-up to the season. The stakes are simply too high for them not to do their homework. If they fall short in a weak NFC South after making such a big splash in free agency, the franchise will have a lot to answer for next offseason.
