The New Orleans Saints are set to host former New England Patriots running back Mike Gillislee for a visit on Sunday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
That was fast: Former Patriots RB Mike Gillislee is heading to New Orleans for a visit this morning, source said. Could get something done if it’s the right fit.
Gillislee is back on the market after he was released by the Patriots Saturday following just one season with the team. He had 383 rushing yards on 104 carries with five touchdowns for the Pats last season.
Gillislee will look to make an impression on a Saints team that’s still shuffling the deck with their running back rotation following Mark Ingram’s four-game suspension to start the regular season.

West was released a couple weeks ago, while Vereen was placed on injured reserve after suffering a finger injury during the team’s preseason finale, per Josh Katzenstein of the Times-Picayune.
The Saints also released Jonathan Williams (per Mike Triplett of ESPN), who had performed well during the team’s preseason campaign. With Williams’ departure, only rookie sixth-rounder Boston Scott remains as the primary backup for Alvin Kamara. Zach Line and Trey Edmunds, who transitioned to fullback from running back during training camp, are also still on the roster.
Prior to his lone season in New England, Gillislee had two-year stops to two other NFC East teams — the Miami Dolphins and Buffalo Bills. Over his five-year career, the 27-year-old has 1,248 rushing yards and 16 touchdowns on 258 carries.
