Drew Brees has opted to return to the New Orleans Saints for the 2020 campaign, but that does not mean the Saints are forgetting about fellow quarterback Taysom Hill.
General manager Mickey Loomis said on SiriusXM NFL Radio that the Saints definitely have plans for Hill moving forward, even if they don't know exactly what they are right now:
“We’ll figure out something,” said Loomis. “He’s unique, he’s not the only one that ever existed but he’s unique when you look around the league, so we’re going to have to look at it in that way. I don’t have an answer for you right now. But I do know this — we love Taysom love what he’s done for us. He’s got a bright future. We have a vision for him. I think he feels the same way, I think he feels strongly about his experience in New Orleans and would love to be back with us. That’s 90 percent of the battle.”
Hill is an interesting player, to say the least.
While he is a quarterback by nominal position, he has served more as a running back, receiver and special teamer for New Orleans than he has as a passer.
Hill has thrown just 13 passes since entering the NFL as an undrafted free agent in 2017, but he has rushed for 352 yards and three touchdowns while notching 22 receptions for 238 yards and six scores.
In addition, he has returned 15 kicks for 360 yards, although Hill returned just one kick in 2019.
The Saints can tender Hill and make him a restricted free agent, which would allow them to match any offer another team makes or receive draft pick compensation if they don't.
