When the New Orleans Saints signed undrafted rookie defensive end Carl Granderson, they knew the young player was facing a pending trial for sexual assault. Now, Granderson will have to serve a six-month jail term before attempting to make his way in the NFL.
According to Pro Football Talk, Granderson had originally agreed to plea no content to one count of sexual battery and one count of unlawful contact, with the consequences of that being one year of unsupervised probation and a mental evaluation.
However, district court judge Tori Kricken rejected that part of the deal, and instead sentenced Granderson to a six-month jail term to be served immediately.
According to reports, the sentencing is for the unlawful contact charge, and a one-year suspended sentence was handed down for the sexual battery charge.

With Granderson now serving a six-month jail sentence, it will be all but impossible for the young defensive end to play for the Saints, or any NFL team, in the upcoming season. With that in mind, it’s highly likely the Saints waive him or move him to an exemption list in order to free up a roster spot.
When Granderson has finished his sentencing, it’s unknown if he’ll continue trying to make an NFL team, but there’s a good chance he will.
