As the New Orleans Saints matchup against the defending champs, the Kansas City Chiefs, draws closer, Saints star quarterback Drew Brees remains doubtful to take the field on Sunday. If you ask Chiefs talisman Patrick Mahomes, however, the reigning Super Bowl MVP is holding hope that Brees is able to return sooner rather than later.
Mahomes had nothing but praise for Brees, as he admitted how he'd like nothing more than to be able to go against the legendary Saints QB on Sunday:
“I mean, it is truly special to be one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time and to be able to consistently produce every single year,” Mahomes said, via Myles Simmons on NBC Sports. “Hopefully, we get to go up against him, I get to go up against him. But if not, hopefully we’ll get to face him at some other time because you want to play against those great quarterbacks you watched growing up that were guys that you looked up to in the way they played the game.”
Brees, who has been dealing with a rib injury, has been out of action for New Orleans for several weeks now. The last time he took the field was in Week 10 against the San Francisco 49ers. While the fact that the 41-year-old was recently, taken off the team's injured reserve list, he still remains highly questionable to face the Chiefs.
Taysom Hill has been the go-to guy in Brees' stead, and while the 30-year-old QB has done a relatively commendable job as the team's starting quarterback, he is clearly no Drew Brees.
