The New Orleans Saints' 38-3 pummeling of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday marked the Saints' fifth consecutive win. New Orleans' recent rise has had a lot to do with Taysom Hill serving as the team's X-Factor — something that was on full display for the Saints against the Bucs.
In a recent interview, Hill opened up about what this means to him, and how confident he is about his team's potential this season (h/t Mike Triplett of ESPN):
“There have been a few more opportunities for me as the weeks have gone on, certainly this week,” said Hill, who explained that a big key for opening things up for himself and the entire offense was his 19-yard completion to tight end Jared Cook on New Orleans’ first third down of the game.
“It was important for me to go out and throw the ball over the middle to Jared. And then it really opened up a lot of other things for us and the rest of the game,” Hill said. “And I think as you look at defending Drew [Brees] and all the weapons that we have, Alvin [Kamara] and Mike [Thomas], Emmanuel [Sanders], Jared — and then you add this nuance to it. If we continue to do this, it’s tough to stop.”
As Hill explained above, that particular play proved to be a turning point for him. New Orleans has been great so far, and the reemergence of Hill as a key player for the squad can only make them a more dangerous team.
The Saints will look to make it six straight wins when they take on the San Francisco 49ers this Sunday.
