New Orleans Saints wide receiver Michael Thomas set a new franchise record right in his team’s very first game of the year.

In the Saints’ 20-14 win at home over the Philadelphia Eagles in a divisional-round meeting on Sunday, Thomas racked up an absurd total of 171 receiving yards to go with a touchdown on 12 receptions and 16 targets. Thomas scored the touchdown that put the Saints ahead for good in the third quarter, catching a short but satisfying two-yard scoring reception that ended a time-consuming 18-play, 92-yard drive that was mostly engineered by quarterback Drew Brees.

According to NFL Research, Thomas’ receiving yards total broke a franchise-playoff record set by wide receiver Marques Colston six years ago.

.@Cantguardmike has the most receiving yards in a single postseason game in @Saints history (171 and counting). The previous record was held by Marques Colston (144) in the 2013 Wild Card vs the Seahawks.

Thomas’ productive night was largely a result of Brees almost exclusively targeting him. Thomas had a huge 42.1 percent target share among the Saints’ receiving corps. No other Saints had more than seven targets, with Ted Ginn Jr. finishing behind Thomas with 44 receiving yards on three receptions and seven targets.

Thomas’ previous single-game career high in the playoffs was 131 receiving yards, which he collected in a win over the Carolina Panthers at home last year.
