Teddy Bridgewater will get another start for the New Orleans Saints against the Chicago Bears on Sunday at Soldier Field. When Drew Brees went down with injury, the hope was that Bridgewater would keep the Saints afloat and in the playoff race. He has done more than that with the team currently sitting with a 5-1 record, which is good enough for first place in the NFC South.
This is a big-time showdown against a good Bears team with Bridgewater probably being the X-Factor. Let's break down three bold predictions for Bridgewater's performance against the Bears.
3. Bridgewater is the best quarterback on the field
This might not be all that bold of prediction having to go compete against Mitchell Trubisky, but on Sunday the Bears are going to wish they could switch quarterbacks.
Besides the one good game against the Redskins, Trubisky has had a lot of trouble making even the routine throws.
Bridgewater didn't have his best game of the season against the Jaguars, but he was still able to throw for 240 yards and a touchdown. Those 240 yards would be enough to outplay Trubisky (or Chase Daniel if he is the one to start the game).
2. Bridgewater struggles with the pressure
Bridgewater is going to be the best quarterback on the field, but he will struggle at times against the Bears' pressure.
Khalil Mack and the rest of the defensive line have given offensive lines fits all year. That is bad news for Bridgewater, because he has struggled to complete passes under pressure. According to playerprofiler.com, Bridgewater only has a 32.4 percent completion percentage on passes where he is pressured, which is 22nd in the league among quarterbacks.
The good news for Bridgewater is that the Saints have a good offensive line, so he shouldn't be under pressure a ton, but when he is it could spell trouble.
1. Bridgewater and Michael Thomas hook up for 150 yards
There is a chance Alvin Kamara can't play in this game and even if he can play, he won't be anywhere close to 100 percent.
That means others are going to have to step up and increase their production. Against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Michael Thomas caught 11 passes for 182 yards and two touchdowns. The two touchdowns might be hard to come by, but he should be able to put up 150 yards in this game.
Getting a win in this game is going to be tough, but with Thomas and Bridgewater having big games, they should be able to get the job done.
