New York Jets receiver Quincy Enunwa has been banged up the past couple of years, and new Jets coach Adam Gase is well aware of that. A neck injury caused Enunwa to miss the entire 2017 season, and he also missed five games last year.
The Jets have a big season ahead of them, and they'll be counting on Enunwa. They don't have the deepest receiving corp, and they need him as a weapon for Sam Darnold as Darnold continues his development. Gase understands this, and emphasized recently that Enunwa needs to preserve himself on the field, per Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News.

We were on opposite teams last year and he carried about 12 guys on his back for about 10 yards. At some point, you’d like him to go down. When you know it’s getting too many, just going down and saving yourself for the next play because we’re going to need him.”
Despite Enunwa's injury concerns, the Jets still felt comfortable rewarding him in a big way, giving him a four-year extension last December worth $36 million. For his part, Enunwa isn't concerned about his health moving forward.
“As I’ve gotten older and smarter, I’ve learned from other guys,” Enunwa explained. “Obviously, I want to make as many plays as possible, but I was able to see the film and see plays where a lot of times it’s a lot smarter to get down.”
It's good to hear Enunwa is taking it seriously, and hopefully he'll be on the field for all 16 games next season.
