Former Australian rugby star Valentine Holmes is trying to make the New York Jets 53-man roster, and put on a show while doing it.

Holmes is on the Jets roster via the International Player Pathway Program, which allows players overseas to get a shot to live out an NFL dream.

The AFC East was the division chosen for the program this year, so each team has one player on their team trying to make the final 53.

Holmes was one of the best Rugby players in the world when he decided to come to the United States to try and make it in the NFL.

“I feel like I want to challenge myself as a person and as a player and as an athlete,” Holmes said via ESPN.  “There's no better way than to compete over here in America in the NFL. It's the pinnacle of sport in America. I've always been watching it since I've been in high school. The opportunity arose for me and I was toward the end of a contract at that time, and I kind of fell into it. There were a couple of clubs that were keen on me and wanted to get me over for a tryout.

It's a real longshot for Holmes to make the Jets this season, but he could land on the team's practice squad in hopes of earning a contract next year.

Either way, Holmes is just trying to have some fun and put on a show for all of New York.

“I hope to put on a show and play well,” he said.

The Jets will start training camp on July 24.
