New York Jets head coach Adam Gase recently had to address the absentees from the team's voluntary workouts. Fortunately, it seems he can rest assure that running back Le'Veon Bell is doing what he can to be ready for the 2019 NFL season.
Bell has become accustomed to working out on his own in recent offseasons. According to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, his trainer insists he is following the same routine he always has since coming out of college:

This is certainly an encouraging update on Bell's status. Gase made it clear that he had no issue with players not coming to workouts because they were voluntary. Regardless, it is good to know that their prized free agent is working to be in tip-top shape when camp rolls around.
There is no question that the routine has been quite effective for Bell. His training has helped him become a two-time first-team All-Pro and three-time Pro Bowler while being widely considered as one of the elite running backs in the NFL. Despite his success, Pittsburgh's unwillingness to reward him with the contract he desired forced him to work out on his own in recent offseasons.
It is safe to say that Bell is pretty set in his ways at this point. The Jets are hoping that the year off has given him an extra year of recovery that very few running backs get to enjoy during the prime of their careers.
