The New York Jets have acquired cornerback Nate Hairston from the Indianapolis Colts in return for a sixth-round draft pick, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

This is a great value for both teams for different reasons. The Jets need cornerback depth and Hairston will give them that for the next couple of years. For the Colts, Hairston was on the bubble and this gives them a sixth-round pick in return for a guy they might have been cutting.

This also looks to give the Colts a better look at what their roster might look like to start the regular season. Cornerbacks Pierre Desir, Kenny Moore, Rock Ya-Sin and Quincy Wilson are locks to make the roster and before the trade, Chris Milton, Marvell Tell, Nate Hairston, and Jalen Collins were battling for the final two roster spots.

With Hairston out of the picture, it looks like Milton, Tell, and Collins are going to be battling for those final two spots.

Hairston was originally a fifth-round pick by the Colts during the 2017 draft and has been solid since coming into the league. He has played in 27 games starting 11 of them and racking up 59 tackles, one interception, and six pass defenses.

It might take a couple of weeks for him to get up to speed in New York but once he does there is a chance he could see some steady playing time.

This trade is still pending a physical, so as long Hairston passes that this will become an official trade.
