The New York Jets were able to secure their future franchise quarterback in Sam Darnold last offseason. It appears they have now found his backup in quarterback Luke Falk.
Falk was recently waived by the Miami Dolphins following the arrival of quarterback Josh Rosen. According to ESPN's Field Yates, the Jets have wasted no time in picking him up off waivers:

It is easy to see where New York's interest in Falk stemmed from. He had been claimed off waivers last offseason as well to get a fresh start under then-Dolphins head coach Adam Gase. He made the active roster before a wrist injury ended his season in early October. While his time in Miami may have been brief it appears he managed to make quite the impression on Gase.
Although Falk has not had much success in the NFL, he is still recognized as the most decorated passer in Pac-12 history. He finished his career at Washington State having broken nearly every divisional passing record. Perhaps the Jets are hoping that the promise he displayed in college will eventually translate to the next level when they need it to.
If all goes right, Falk will never be in a situation with dire consequences at stake. New York has made it clear that they are all in on Darnold after surrounding him with some key pieces this offseason. Falk will have an opportunity solidify himself as the clear-cut No. 2 under center.
