The New York Jets are reportedly intrigued at the possibility of bringing in former Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy.

New York continues its search for a new coach after firing Todd Bowles following yet another disappointing regular season.

However, could McCarthy wind up being the selection for the Jets, who appear to be very intrigued by his accomplishments during his NFL career thus far?

From ESPN's Rich Cimini:

One league source told me Jets CEO Christopher Johnson is “enamored” with McCarthy, who certainly is the most accomplished coach on the team's list. His offensive background appeals to the Jets, who want someone who can nurture quarterback Sam Darnold.

It makes sense that the Jets would have a ton of interest in McCarthy, especially considering that he's a Super Bowl winning coach that led the Packers to numerous playoff appearances.

Yes, having Aaron Rodgers under center certainly helps, but McCarthy still deserves credit for being able to help lead the team to that many postseason appearances during his tenure in Green Bay.

Also, with Sam Darnold looking like a franchise quarterback at this point, he should be a top priority when it comes to finding the right coach that can help develop him.

McCarthy would meet that requirement given his history with Rodgers and as a quarterbacks coach in the league.

While it would undoubtedly cost the Jets a little bit of money to bring him in, McCarthy would be a great option if developing Darnold is a major focus for the franchise.
