The New York Jets may want people to believe that they traded up to No. 3 in the draft with no one specific in mind, but the football-loving free world knows that can’t be entirely true. With most of the teams at the top of the draft expected to take quarterbacks, they must have traded up to make sure they get someone.

It appears that “someone” is probably not going to be USC quarterback Sam Darnold. He’s the one guy they haven’t had a workout with and don’t have one scheduled, according to Si.com’s Albert Breer. But, there's a reason for it.

The Jets already have workouts with UCLA’s Josh Rosen and Oklahoma’s Baker Mayfield under their belts. I’m told they’re working out Wyoming’s Josh Allen early this week. Not on the books? A workout for USC’s Sam Darnold, which is a pretty good sign of how strong the feeling is in league circles that Darnold’s going to be gone quickly.

Since they are at No. 3 and the Cleveland Browns and New York Giants are expected to take quarterbacks, you would think they would want to see Darnold. That way, if two of the other guys are gone when it’s their turn, they’ll have done their homework on whoever is left.

The Jets still could see him, of course. There is plenty of time before the draft. If they don’t, they must not think too highly of him. Either that, or they must be convinced the Browns or Giants are going to take him.

As their roster stands, Josh McCown is probably going to be the starter again this coming season. But, it is entirely possible that Teddy Bridgewater emerges as an option as well.
