The New York Jets have requested to interview Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy for their now-vacant head-coaching position, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
The Jets fired Todd Bowles as their head coach after losing their season finale to the New England Patriots on Sunday.
Bieniemy has been a part of the Chiefs' coaching staff since 2013, serving as the running backs coach from 2013 through 2017 before being promoted to offensive coordinator this year.
The 49-year-old enjoyed a great deal of success during his first season on the job, leading Kansas City to the No. 1 offense in the league and helping quarterback Patrick Mahomes in becoming an MVP candidate.
Prior to his time with the Chiefs, Bieniemy spent a five-year stint with the Minnesota Vikings, holding a post as the team's running backs coach from 2006 through 2010.

The Jets went just 4-12 this season, marking the second time in five years that they have posted such a record. In Bowles' four years as head coach, New York went just 26-41, failing to make the playoffs.
The Jets have not made the postseason since the 2010-11 campaign, when they made it all the way to the AFC Championship Game before falling to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Since then, New York has posted just one winning season, going 10-6 in 2015.
