Le'Veon Bell has battled issues with his hamstring during training camp with the New York Jets. While Bell is feeling better now, La'Mical Perine is going to be undergoing an MRI on his ankle on Sunday, per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

According to Rapoport, it is believed that Perine sustained a sprain to his ankle during Sunday's team scrimmage. With that being said, the Jets want him to undergo an MRI so they can discover the official ailment.

Despite having Bell as their workhorse back, New York added Perine in the 2020 NFL Draft. The Jets took the Flordia product in the fourth round, giving them depth at the running back position. The team would also sign longtime veteran Frank Gore to provide them with insurance behind Bell.

In his final two seasons at Florida, Perine scampered for a total of 1,502 rushing yards and 13 rushing touchdowns. He also proved himself as a receiving threat in 2019, catching a personal-best 40 passes for 262 yards and another five touchdowns. Altogether, in his first three collegiate seasons, he had a combined 32 receptions for the Gators.

Throughout training camp, Perine has been impressing the Jets with his dual-threat ability out of the backfield. But with Bell and Gore ahead of him on the depth chart, it is unknown what his role will be during his rookie campaign.

When playing the running back position, ankle injuries can be a lingering issue during the course of a regular season. In light of that, the Jets will await the results of his MRI to see the severity of his ankle injury on Sunday.
