Sam Darnold took over as the starting quarterback for the New York Jets this season after being drafted with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. He has shown flashes of big potential, but has also missed some time lately due to injury. New York cannot wait to get him back on the field, but he still might miss more time.

According to a report from NFL.com, Darnold could very well miss the Jets' Week 13 game and is likely to return in Week 14 when New York takes on the Buffalo Bills.

The rookie quarterback won't play Sunday because of a nagging foot injury, and a source told NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport that Darnold likely won't be back until Week 14 against the Buffalo Bills.

New York is once again headed for a high draft pick and hold a 3-8 record. Getting Darnold back on the field will be crucial for the Jets as they want to develop him as much as possible this season.

Throughout the 2018 NFL season in nine games, Darnold has completed 55 percent of his pass attempts for 1,934 yards, 11 touchdowns, and 14 interceptions. His numbers don't look great, but that should be expected of a rookie quarterback getting thrown immediately into action.

At just 21 years old, Darnold has a very bright future as the franchise quarterback for the Jets. It has been a long time since the Jets had a quarterback with the kind of potential that Darnold possesses.

All of that being said, Darnold should be back on the field by Week 14. There is a good chance that he will miss next week, but playing the final four games of the season will be crucial for him to gain more valuable experience.
