New York Jets quarterback Sam Darnold sat out the team’s last game before their bye in Week 11 due to a sprained foot. But despite getting that extra time to recover, Darnold has also missed the team’s first practice since returning from their bye.
In the #Jets’ first practice following the bye week, QB Sam Darnold is not practicing and is in street clothes. Darnold didn’t play in Week 10 because of a strained right foot.

It was reported last week that Darnold’s status for the Jets’ big Week 12 matchup against the New England Patriots remains uncertain due to that injured foot. And the fact that he still isn’t ready to practice puts a bit more doubt into his potential availability.
Although, Darnold is at least out of the walking boot he had been wearing. Moreover, he still has time to make it back to practice later in the week and get ready to make the start against the Pats.
With Darnold out, veteran Josh McCown got the nod to start at quarterback in Week 10 against the Buffalo Bills. McCown struggled in his first start of the season as he went just 17 of 34 for 135 yards with two interceptions. McCown will be called upon to make another start if Darnold doesn't recover in time this week.
Considering Darnold’s struggles in his last three games — sub-50 percent completion with two touchdowns against seven interceptions — it would be foolish to throw him out against the Patriots if he’s not close to 100 percent.
It would be in the best interest of both Darnold and the Jets if they just sit the rookie QB out for another week and wait for him to make a full recovery from his foot injury.
