It was reported this week that Sam Darnold had a great chance to become the New York Jets starting quarterback this week, but if that is still the case, there is still a lot of work to be done. The Jets released their first depth chart of the season on Monday and Darnold was third on the list behind Josh McCown and Teddy Bridgewater.
The Jets have their first preseason game of the year on Friday, and there is a chance that he could play up to an entire half. If he performs well don't be surprised to see his name start to climb up the depth chart. Darnold is excited to get on the field, and even Bridgewater thinks the rookie is going to be just fine.

Darnold is excited to show what he has learned as he has become more comfortable on an NFL field.
“I definitely feel a lot more comfortable calling plays in the huddle and then executing them,” Darnold said. “Obviously I'm not exactly where I want to be. There's always growth that needs to happen. But I'm real excited with where I'm at.”
At some point Darnold is going to be the starter for this team, the question is just how long will that wait be.
