New York Jets quarterback Sam Darnold is set to have his second head coach in as many seasons with Adam Gase coming in to replace Todd Bowles. And the young QB can’t wait to have the opportunity to work with Gase.

Darnold says he loves the fire and passion Gase brings and is looking forward to hearing Gase’s ideas about the offense.

“I couldn’t be more excited about this, to be honest with you,” Darnold said per Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News. “I’m really pumped about this opportunity to be with Coach Gase…. with his mind and ability to lead a team. He’s a good dude. The excitement and the passion that he has for the game is very contagious. I think that will rub off on a lot of the guys…. I’m super pumped about this whole thing and couldn’t be more stoked for the opportunity.”

Gase, who spent three seasons as head coach of the Miami Dolphins, has a strong reputation as an offensive mind who can develop quarterbacks. His ability to help mold Darnold into a star is likely a major factor in why the Jets chose him as their head coach.

Darnold showed flashes of his potential in his rookie season, but still has a long way to go to become the franchise QB the Jets envision him being. But if Gase can successfully help him fulfill even more of that potential, that will go a long way toward restoring the Jets back to respectability.
