New York Jets quarterback Sam Darnold's big knock coming out of USC was his problems with throwing interceptions. That really showed on Sunday against the Miami Dolphins when he threw four interceptions and zero touchdowns. The Jets defense only gave up 13 points, so they had every opportunity to win the game and probably would have if Darnold would have just played a little better.
There are already some grumblings from the New York media about if Darnold is as good as they need him to be, but it seems all of his teammates still have his back.
“We’re still behind him, 100 percent,” Jets cornerback Morris Claiborne said via northjersey.com. “We have his back, no matter what. Sometimes you go through these types of games. It’s just going to be how he responds to it in the coming weeks. Knowing him, the way he’s handled himself so far has been good, so I wouldn’t expect it no other way. I expect him to come to work on Monday with this put behind him and ready to move forward.”
It's a good sign that players on the defense still have faith in him because the Jets defense did everything in their power to win the game, but it was the offense that held him back.
Wide receiver Quincy Enunwa said the struggles fall on the entire offense and the rest of the offense needs to step up and help Darnold out.
“It’s just about all of us trying to make plays and help him out.” Quincy Enunwa said. “It’s hard to play mistake free football, even as a veteran. So as an offense we just have to find a way to make plays when we can so we’re giving him opportunities.”
